Engine Blocks

Engine blocks are the last piece in the Big Block Mopar puzzle that haven't gone "aftermarket" yet. When building a high performance stroker engine with our parts, you can order practically every part of the engine in some type of brand new "billet forged super heavy duty" version, (and have it show up at your doorstep with just a simple phone call,) EXCEPT for engine blocks. These are the one part you can't get new for a reasonable price. And even if you do fork out the 3-$4000 for a new aftermarket block, there's been so many availability and quality control issues, it's often months or even years until you can actually get your paws on one. The alternative has been to scrounge through the bone yards, looking for a practically nonexistent core engine.

When (or if) you do find one, the chances of it being cracked, overbored too far, or any of a hundred other potential problems is pretty likely with used engine blocks, most of which are from an unknown origin, and practically half a century old at this point. We get calls all the time from guys who spent hours pulling these core engines out of a vehicle, and hours more tearing them down, bringing them to the machine shop, etc... only to find out they have nothing but an expensive boat anchor.

So, as an answer to the above problems, we are now carrying a large selection of pre-inspected and FULLY MACHINED Big Block Mopar engine blocks to work with our stroker kits. We start with only the best quality seasoned factory blocks. When we first receive them, they are checked for any broken off engine mount ears or starter mount ears. Any blocks we find with ANY broken off ears are not used. Then the blocks go through oven baking, where all the factory grease and grime is baked off and removed. Then they are subject to a full magnafluxing, which inspects the lifter valley, main saddles, outer case (by the freeze plugs) and other areas for any cracks which could compromise the integrity and horsepower handling ability of the blocks. Once they pass full magnaflux, they go into the Sunnen shot peening machine which brings the surface of the cast iron back to a factory fresh finish, removing nearly all traces of dirt and rust that standard baking or hot tanking will not remove. At this point we have as close as you can get to a factory fresh casting, ready for machining.

COMING SOON.... DETAILS ON THE MACHINING TOLERANCES, FINISHING PROCESSES AND EQUIPMENT. ALL PERFORMED EXCLUSIVELY ON SUNNEN EQUIPMENT.

All blocks include ARP main studs with 12 point nuts installed and torqued to spec. during line honing.

All cylinder honing is done with torque plate, head gaskets and main caps installed and torqued to spec.

A perfect compliment to our stroker kits. Just do your stroker clearancing, final wash and clean, install freeze plugs and cam bearings, and assemble your stroker motor.

Fully machined engine blocks sell for $1295

400 and 440 blocks with common bore sizes such as .030, .040, .055, .060 are usually available. Call for details.

Table: Engine blocks

If you haven't already, before buying a block, read our Everything you've ever wanted to know about blocks and more page.

Chrysler's parts division generally did not offer engine blocks separately as a part with it's own part number. They were only serviced as part of a "short engine" or short block, complete with crank, rods and pistons, so the following table lists actual casting numbers, not Chrysler part numbers as the rest of the tables on our site do. The numbers in blue are unverified. This table is just for informational purposes only. We DO NOT have all the blocks listed in this table in stock. Thanks and enjoy.
