Items are able to be returned for a period of 45 days from your invoice date. This includes returns on both defective and non-defective merchandise. Specifics of both are explained below:
On non-defective merchandise returns:
These include situations such as, you changed your mind, ordered the wrong part/wrong size/style/color etc. We try very hard to get you exactly what you are looking for the first time around and we want you to be happy with whatever you order. Returns of non defective merchandise cost all parties involved time and money, and are usually avoidable if the correct homework would have been done beforehand. So, we ask that you please do your research, collaborate with your engine builder or machine shop, compare the competition, ask us all your questions, think long and hard, and please be 100% positive you are selecting the correct parts before you place your order. We have spent considerable resources on listing very detailed pictures and specifications on our website for this purpose, and our sales staff is always available and will do their best to help you any way they can.
To avoid any misunderstandings, ANYTIME a credit card number, shipping and/or billing address, and part numbers are supplied, this will be considered placing an order. In an effort to get you the parts as soon as possible, orders are processed and shipped IMMEDIATELY after being submitted. This means parts cannot be added, removed or changed once the order is placed. Due to limitations of our computer software, multiple orders (placed either on our web store or over the telephone) cannot be combined into a single shipment. We do not backorder, "place holds", or "accept deposits" for parts. Again, to avoid any possible misunderstandings, if, for any reason you do you do not wish for your credit card to be immediately charged, and your part(s) immediately shipped, please DO NOT supply us with your credit card number.
That being said, if you need to return something, you must call us first to get an RMA number. All returned merchandise must have an RMA (Returned Merchandise Authorization) number assigned by us prior to shipping it back. This RMA number must be clearly written in large print on the box. Any shipments we receive without a valid RMA number clearly written on the box will be returned to sender, at senders expense. You must ship the item back to us yourself, we do not issue "call tags." When shipping the item(s) back to us, be sure to insure the package for full replacement value, in case there is any damage or loss on the way back to us. RMA’s expire 30 days after being issued, so if the product(s) are not shipped back to us during this time period, they will no longer be able to be returned. Include a copy of your invoice, an explanation of why you are returning the part, and your contact info including phone number and address. While we do attempt to process RMA's as soon as possible after they are received, depending on our workload, there can occasionally there can be some processing time involved. If it is important that your return or exchange is processed immediately after we receive it, we recommend you write "URGENT" in large print on the outside of the box next to the RMA number. We also recommend you track your package on your end once it has shipped and call us to request a status on your RMA once you see that the package has been delivered to us.
Please do not ship the item(s) directly in the original manufacturer's box. Please package the item in a second, outer box with additional padding for added protection. If you ship the item directly in it's original manufacturer's box, the original box will very likely get thrashed during shipping and the item will no longer be in new condition by the time it gets to us. The item(s) must be BRAND NEW in EXACTLY the same condition as when they came off our shelf, in exactly the same packaging, etc. This means NO machining/ writing/ scribing/ wrench marks/ numbering stamps/ scuff marks/ wear marks/ witness marks on bolt holes/ greasy fingerprints/ missing or dirty instructions, or alteration in any way whatsoever. Pistons, Rings and Bearings are non-returnable once their original box has been opened, or if the shrink wrap has been broken, or if they have any fingerprints or other markings on them. For obvious reasons, custom machined parts such as balanced rotating assemblies (stroker kits), any parts integrated into balanced rotating assemblies, custom made and/or special order pistons are all non-returnable under any circumstances. Shipping charges, (inbound and/or outbound) are non refundable under any circumstances.
In order to recoup our costs, on returned items which require a refund, an industry standard 20% RESTOCKING FEE WILL BE CHARGED. In certain situations, as long as the parts qualify as "Brand new" condition, and you are within the 45 day return period, we may be able to reduce or waive the restocking fee should you choose to take store credit instead of a refund. This option is not available if you choose a refund.
Pushrods cannot have the restocking fee waived, please verify your correct length before ordering.
Refunds are issued by company check only, regardless of the original payment method. Please allow up to 30 days to issue company checks.
There are absolutely no returns or exchanges allowed for any reason after 45 days from the invoice date.
These policies allow us to be able to continue to offer our customers the lowest prices around on high quality and brand name parts long into the future, and we thank you in advance for your understanding.
On defective merchandise (warranty) returns:
These include situations where an item is not able to be used for its intended purpose because it has an obvious defect in manufacturing. When parts are defective, you must allow us the chance to exchange the part for a correct one. If you refuse to allow us to correct the situation by sending you a replacement item, it will be handled as a return, and subject to standard return policies listed above.
When new parts are made, they are made from engineering "drawings" or pictures (technical line drawings) of the parts along with specifications which list the exact dimensions and how much those dimensions are allowed to vary, (often listed as a +/- figure.) If the measurements of the parts are within those listed dimensions, the part is considered to be "within spec." We strongly believe in the quality of all parts we sell, and we guarantee (within 45 (forty five) days from the invoice date) that every part we sell will be within spec, or made to the requirements of the engineering drawings. If you suspect a part is "out of spec" take an accurate measurement of the suspected area of the part, and call us with the information. We will then check your measurement against the specs for the part. If the part is out, we will have you send it back, and we will double check the measurement, and send you a replacement that is correct. Because most of our parts are machined on modern CNC (computer controlled) equipment, this almost never happens, however anything is possible.
Please note however, while we will be more than happy to exchange an out of spec part for one that is correct, should you choose to fix the part yourself, or pay a machine shop to fix the part, we cannot and will not, under any circumstances, be held responsible for any charges associated with correcting a part we have not been able to inspect ourselves and verify as being incorrect.

Often our parts are used in conjunction with many of the thousands of other aftermarket parts made available by hundreds of different manufacturers. Then, consider most of these parts are often being used together with 40+ year old original passenger car parts, many of which have been repeatedly machined, modified, abused, etc over the years, and it becomes obvious that it would be impossible for us to guarantee that every part would fit and work properly in every application. Selecting the correct parts and then fitting these parts together properly often requires a considerable level of meticulous skill, patience and above all, experience. We strongly recommend our parts be inspected, used and/or installed by qualified professionals only. It is YOUR responsibility to inspect / measure / test / check / mock up / trial fit / clearance, etc EVERY AREA of ANY and ALL parts you are using in your engine. Professional engine builders leave nothing to chance. They double and triple check every clearance in the engine. If you don't have the skill/time/precision measuring equipment/knowledge/experience, etc, that will allow you to be 100% sure that every aspect of the part will work properly in your specific application once it has been installed, please hire a professional who does. If you don't have a professional you know and trust, we'll even be happy to recommend one to you. Although we guarantee our parts to be within spec, if ANY part (in or out of spec) is installed, modified in any way, and/or used incorrectly or without checking proper fitment (as described above,) we will not be responsible or liable for any special, punitive, incidental, indirect or consequential damages of any kind, or any damages whatsoever, including, without limitation, those resulting from loss of use or profits.
Many of the parts we sell are intended for use in very specialized, highly stressed HIGH PERFORMANCE and/or racing applications. Due to the nature of these applications, all 440 Source products are provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including, but not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, or the warranty of non-infringement. In plain English, this means that, (similar to almost every other company offering aftermarket parts intended for use in HIGH PERFORMANCE and/or racing applications,) there is no warranty or guarantee against failure or as to how they will perform in such a highly stressed environment. Parts are not guaranteed and CANNOT BE RETURNED after you have installed, modified, and/or run them in the engine. Any claims due to parts being manufactured "out of spec" or otherwise incorrect must be made after inspection, before the parts are run on the engine.
Our warranty is for a period of 45 days. While it is our responsibility to fully honor our warranty policy during this period, it is your responsibility to verify and/or inspect the parts in a timely fashion. The warranty period begins from your invoice date, not from the date you begin to start using the parts. This means upon receiving your parts, you should immediately and thoroughly inspect / measure / test / check / mock up / trial fit , etc, and/or do whatever you feel is necessary to verify the part is correct and will work properly for your application. If, for some reason you feel you will not be able to do this within the 45 days, we recommend you wait to place your order until such time as you will be able to. We DO NOT warranty parts after 45 days from your invoice date. We do business by these policies without exception. Our liability is strictly limited to replacing the defective part with another of the same part. We do not reimburse for any other incidental costs you may incur, such as gaskets, shipping, labor charges, other parts etc. We do not issue “call tags.” All parts returned to us under warranty must be sent back to us freight prepaid, and will be returned freight collect.
A note on TIME FRAMES. Building a high performance engine, (much like building a house,) is a very complicated process which usually involves parts and/or services from many different companies, vendors and individuals. Usually this process takes longer than expected. The probability of unforeseen events on a build can be high. This includes situations where additional parts may need to be ordered, wrong parts were sent by mistake, (or lost/damaged in shipping, etc.) Often, for whatever reason, parts may need to be returned, exchanged or modified. Because of this, we strongly recommend you leave enough time in your build to allow for sufficient time to fix any potential problems. If you are returning or exchanging a part with us, we will first need to receive the old part(s) back BEFORE we can process the return and send a replacement. We WILL NOT be able to send you a replacement part until we have received your old part back and have been able to verify the problem. If you do find yourself under a deadline, you may choose to send the old part back to us by next day air, and have us send the replacement part back to you the following day (also by next day air,) however you will incur considerable extra costs with this method. To avoid this, we recommend you allow for plenty of time in your build.
Understanding and following these policies will help ensure all parties have a positive experience, and that there are no “surprises” or “unknowns.”
For most packages under 66 pounds, (depending on which country it is going to) the US Postal service has very reasonable international rates. For international packages, we normally ship Priority Mail International through the US Postal Service. Delivery time generally takes 8-12 working days, and shipments usually arrive within 2 weeks. You can go to www.usps.com to find the exact maximum weight limit to your country. For most countries it is 66 pounds. For most orders, you can find the exact shipping cost by using the shipping cost estimator on our web store. Please note: THE SHIPPING COST ESTIMATES ON OUR WEB STORE FOR LARGE INTERNATIONAL ORDERS (WHICH ARE OVER THE WEIGHT LIMIT) MAY NOT BE ACCURATE. You must call or email us to get an accurate international shipping quote for large orders.
For packages over the USPS weight limit (which is usually 66 pounds), such as our stroker kits, crankshafts, or large orders which require multiple boxes, Bax Global (now known as DB Schenker) has great worldwide rates. We will find you the best deal!
Also, please note: We are not able to list items sold as a "gift" or as a lower than actual value to avoid paying import taxes. Please do not ask. Included with the export documentation must be a commercial invoice which lists details of all items sold including description and actual value (cost of goods sold.) All methods of shipment have this requirement by law, and all U.S. companies are required by law to list the value of commercial goods being exported. If a company exports commercial merchandise as lower than the actual sales value, or as a gift, they are breaking the law and can be fined or lose the ability to export goods.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING INSURANCE POLICY:
All international packages are shipped with insurance covering the full value of the parts, when possible. In almost all cases, the post office (USPS) will only allow shipments to be insured for a maximum limit of $500 total value. If the value of your parts exceeds this maximum value, the excess value of the parts will not be insured. We ship thousands of packages this way, and there is rarely any issues, but anything is possible. If this is not acceptable to you, please let us know when you order, and we will need to find a different method of shipping.
If there is shipping damage or loss, it needs to be reported to us upon receipt of the package, and we will need to file an insurance claim. Please be advised that USPS is a government agency, and while the shipping costs are very reasonable, they often take 3-5 months to provide re-imbursement after a claim is filed. Should you experience any loss or damage, please be aware that it can take some time before you are reimbursed for the costs of the damaged items and shipping charges. Again, if this is not acceptable to you, please let us know when you order, and we will need to find a different method of shipping.
For all domestic US shipping we use FedEx ground. We have found FedEx ground to be priced very competitively, especially for shipping metal engine parts, when package weights can easily get above the 25+ pound range. All shipping charges must be prepaid and will be included in the invoiced total of your order. Orders received by 3 PM Pacific Standard Time (during normal business days) will USUALLY ship the same day. Maximum transit time to the east coast is 5 days. The closer you are to southern California, the less time it will take to be delivered. If you need your parts right away, you can request FedEx Express, which is available in 3 day, 2 day or overnight. Prices are usually 3-5 times that of shipping ground. If you wish to know your shipping costs, please ask your salesperson when placing your order, and in most cases they will be able to give you an accurate shipping cost estimate at that time.
On our web store, you can find a shipping cost calculator which will allow you find the exact costs of shipping the parts to your zip code. However, PLEASE NOTE: THE SHIPPING COST ESTIMATES ON OUR AUTOMATED WEB STORE MAY NOT BE ACCURATE FOR LARGER ORDERS (over 70 lbs.) You must call or email us to get an accurate shipping quote for these larger orders.
DOMESTIC SHIPPING MINIMUM CHARGE:
We do have a minimum shipping charge of $12.95. Unfortunately, very small orders do not generate enough profit for us to cover the costs of processing these orders. Other companies cover this with a "handling fee" or a minimum order of a certain amount (usually $50) While we do neither of these things, it is necessary for us to have a minimum shipping charge. Because of this minimum charge, if there are several items you need, it will help to save on shipping charges if you wait and order them all at once so they can all go in the same box as opposed to several small shipments. For example, it might be $12.95 to ship one item, however it might be only $17 to ship four items to the same address, meaning your shipping cost on a "per-item" basis is now only about $4. If all you need is one small item, such as one bolt or one pushrod, etc, it may pay to try to source it locally first to avoid the minimum shipping, which can often be more than the part itself. Again we apologize for this, but it is necessary and easily avoided with a little planning of your engine build.
DOMESTIC SHIPPING INSURANCE POLICY:
We are not responsible for any shipping loss or damage. FedEx automatically covers every package up to $100 in value. If you wish to insure your package(s) for more than this $100 value (up to the cost of the parts,) you MUST let us know when ordering. Insurance is a small extra charge, depending on the value of your order. It is very, very rare to have a package that is lost or damaged, but anything is possible. We do not ship items "Signature required" unless requested. This means your driver will probably leave the shipment on the porch or around the side of the house/building if no one answers the door. If you do not feel comfortable with packages being left, please make sure to specifically request a "signature required" option when ordering. There is a small extra charge per box for the "signature required" option.
If parts are lost or damaged during shipment, it must be reported to us within 10 days of receipt, and we will need to file an insurance claim. Save all your original packaging and damaged items, they may contact you to come and pick them up for inspection. FedEx often takes 2-6 weeks to provide re-imbursement after a claim is filed. Should you experience any loss or damage, please be aware that it can take some time before you are reimbursed for the costs of the damaged items and shipping charges.
We accept Mastercard and Visa, either of these is generally the quickest and easiest method of payment. You may also pay by Cashier's Check (also known as a Certified Check or Bank Check) or a Postal Money order, which must always be in US funds. Please call or email first for details, as we must make sure we have the item(s) you need in stock and give you a total including shipping charges before you send payment. If you desire proof of delivery (and faster, more reliable service,) you may want to send your payment via an "overnight" letter service (such as FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc), with a tracking number and confirmation of delivery service.
If you don't have a Visa or Mastercard, a good alternative is the "prepaid" Visa or Mastercards usually sold at local supermarkets. These are sold as a generic giftcard and can be used anywhere Visa or Mastercard is accepted. They can usually be purchased with cash, and then are good for any value up to $500.
Sorry, but we DO NOT accept personal checks. If you send a personal check, it will not be deposited, and we will attempt to contact you for a different payment arrangement. We also DO NOT accept American Express, Discover, or any auction payment sites such as Paypal, Billpay, etc.
Our main warehouse is located at 141 W. Avenue J-5 in Lancaster, California 93534, (about an hour north of Los Angeles.) If you wish to will call parts directly from our warehouse, please call us first to check stock and make an appointment.
If you are local in the Southern California area, and would like to come in person to pick up parts, that is no problem. However, to speed up the process we do ask that you please call us in advance, so we can check stock and have your parts ready for you. Picking parts up in person also has the obvious added benefit of saving on shipping, which can be a considerable cost with heavy iron parts such as blocks, heads, cranks, etc. It is California State law that all parts which are being picked up at our warehouse will be subject to state sales tax (currently 9.75%), even if you plan to export them out of the state and/or country after purchase.
