Platinum Series Pistons: Our premium forged Platinum Series pistons are made from the same aerospace quality 2618 T-6 aluminum billet as the high dollar name brands. They have incredible strength without sacrificing light weight. All pistons use 1/16, 1/16, 3/16 ring pack for less frictional loss, and weight saving .990 pins, full floating and held securely in place with included SpiroLox. All include matching chrome moly heat treated, centerless ground pins. Many applications are available in Flattop, Dish or (coming soon) Domed for nearly any compression ratio, and at most all common bore sizes. Now available for an almost unbelievably low price! We figure the ratios below with a standard .039" head gasket, which is the thickness of Felpro's popular #1009 Chrysler big block head gasket. All our pistons use the lighter and stronger .990" pins and 1/16, 1/16, 3/16 ring grooves. Low tension or standard tension rings can be used. Ross Custom Pistons: Ross Custom Pistons are CNC machined on the highest quality, most modern equipment available. (Okuma, Mori Seiki, Takisawa.) No other custom piston factory is tooled as well as Ross. They will make custom pistons exactly to your specs, allowing complete freedom of bore size, compression ratio, ring pack type/position, compression height, etc. Any standard bore engine will need custom pistons, as well as less common applications such as 383's or 413/426 wedges. Also any unique stroker combinations with non-standard rod length or pin size, heads with non-stock valve angles (original B1's, etc) all will require custom pistons. They also may be necessary for blown or nitrous applications over 250 horsepower which may need lower compression ratios or the ring pack moved further down the piston. Custom pistons DO NOT include pins. Don't forget to order pins (listed below). Depending on the compression ratio you specify, even if you order flattop custom pistons, engineers at Ross may find it necessary to upgrade the design to a dish or a dome in order to keep your specified compression ratio while still retaining an acceptable quench distance with the combustion chamber CC's listed. If this is the case, the difference in price between flattop custom pistons and dome or dish custom pistons will be charged to your credit card before the pistons ship. The only way to avoid this is to specify "flat-top piston" on your order form without listing a compression ratio. Also, if your pistons compression height is less than about 1.300" using a .990" pin, or 1.400" using a 1.094" pin, or if you specify blower or nitrous use (in which case Ross will lower the ring pack) it may be necessary to use Ross' oil ring support rails, as the wrist pin will be located partly into the oil ring groove and will need the extra support. If needed, the oil ring support rails will be supplied with the pistons and the additional cost of $57 will be charged to your credit card before the pistons ship. These are not recommended for applications with blowers or large nitrous systems. Window Milling: One of the most effective ways to lighten pistons is with the Ross window milling option. This entails milling "blank windows" into the inside of the skirts in a manner that will remove a considerable amount of weight from the inside of the pistons without adversely affecting the strength of the skirt. This operation works especially well on big block Chrysler engines since they have some of the largest skirts known to man. Pin Boss Milling: This operation can remove several grams of aluminum by angle milling material from between the top of the pin hole and the inside of the piston head. Inside Head Milling: Ross will mill material from inside the piston head including the area under the dome which is not essential to piston strength. Amount of material to be removed will vary depending on the forging being used. MAXIMUM INTERNAL MILLING: ----"THE WORKS"---- Ross will do every possible milling operation (including all those listed above) which would lighten the piston without seriously detracting from its strength. Use for drag racing, serious competition, etc. The ultimate. Gas Ports Top: Ross will drill gas ports which allow cylinder pressure to go directly behind the top ring and aid in sealing. These are very effective when used with tight ring grooves and high ring positioning. Not recommended with Dyke's rings. These options are available for custom pistons only, they cannot be "added" to any "off the shelf" pistons.

| Ross's 4340 Super Duty Pins listed below are the ultimate pins for strength. They are made from billet bar stock 4340 Chrome Moly, which has a minimum tensile strength of 240,000 PSI and a 13% greater ductility than regular pins. The hard chrome finish provides excellent life. Recommended for any engines over 700 horsepower, or with large nitrous systems, blowers, or anytime extra strength is desired. | |||||||||||
